John 11 (NIV84)
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?”John 11:25-26
John’s gospel is the only one to record the story of Lazarus. Lazarus was dead for four days and Jesus calls him back to life. Whoops, maybe I should have given you a spoiler alert. OK take a moment and read the story for yourself in John 11. As you do remember Lazarus is Jesus friend. He is not one of the twelve who were named apostles. In fact, there is little mention of Lazarus beyond this story. So, as you read this, think of Jesus in terms of his humanity.
This happened just a few days before Jesus would be crucified. Do you think that this helped Jesus followers to remember and have faith after they saw Jesus crucified? The truth is they still didn’t believe even though Jesus predicted his death and resurrection. When Jesus died, they struggled to remember and believe? Are there things that Jesus has promised you that you tend to forget and maybe struggle to believe?
Jesus wept. The shortest verse in the Bible. Why do you think Jesus wept? Do you think Jesus cries over our daily struggles? Jesus told Martha, “If you believe you will see the glory of God.” Let me ask you, “Do you believe you will see the Glory of God manifest in your life?”
